THE 8TH STRATEGY AND PERFORMANCE EXECUTION EXCELLENCE IN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

SPEx2® DX (Strategy and Performance Execution Excellence) Award 2023 is the 8th Year of an annual event conducted by credible independent institutions, GML Performance Consulting with Kontan Media.

GML Performance Consulting is known for its experience in assisting Asian organizations enhance their strategic competitiveness by implementing strategy and performance management systems. Kontan Media is a highly trusted and respectable media corporation, publishing Media.

The award criteria are based on GML’s 6 Dimensions of DX Organization Capabilities. The selection of recipients will be based on a carefully-designed combination of business community perception and jury evaluation. Recipients of the award will gain the prestige of being recognized as the forerunner of strategy management systems implementer who produce tangible performance for their customers and shareholders while maintaining the engagement of their employees.

SPEx2® DX AWARD RATIONALE

Study from Harvard Business Review, about Corporate Transformations (2021) shows that only 22% of companies successfully transformed themselves. A 78% failure rate quantifiably affirms how tough it is to transform an organization.

The new digital era and the covid-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the pace of business, forcing company to be ready for digital transformation.

A study in “Digital Transformation”, a book by Suwardi Luis (CEO of GML Performance Consulting) and Firdaus Alamsjah (Executive Director of Binus CREATES) in 2022 shows that only 28% of companies in Indonesia were ready for digital transformation. 48% companies were really not ready, while the rest were not ready because they did not have a clear digital strategy (10%) and were weak or not agile in responding to the changes that were taking place (18%).

Mckinsey in a study also explained the average digital transformation stands a 45 percent chance of delivering less profit than expected. But, the good news is that executives can decisively increase the chance that a transformation focused on digital enablement will beat performance expectations.

Adhering to a well-defined set of transformation practices (Laying out clear priorities, Investing in talent, Committing time and money, Embracing agility, Empowering people) lifts the likelihood of exceeding profit expectations to more than 50 percent—about five times better than transformations that involve none of these practices.

Why was the Award established?

Execution of strategy, not just development of strategy, has become the strategic challenge of our times. Various studies, research and literatures emphasize the need for better execution by corporation to improve organization performance and sustainability:

  • As strategy execution becomes the highest priority issue by executives as well as investors, organizations who could show evidence of a strong strategy management system will command higher respect from their peer groups, customers, employees, and shareholders.
  • Based on GML’s 5 phases of Strategy and Performance Execution Excellence Framework, and 6 Dimensions of DX Organization Capabilities, SPEx2® DX Award is designed to evaluate and identify organizations who are perceived to possess strong capabilities in developing and executing their strategy and digital transformation.

  • Recipients of SPEx2® DX Award will be recognized as a leader in creating value for their stakeholders: customers, shareholders and employees, through a strong strategy management system and digital transformation.

How do organizations apply?

There are two phases of this SPEx2® DX Award. In Phase I, based on an independent, intensive survey to business practitioners, the committee of SPEx2® DX has selected and invited top 150 companies from more than 300 companies within 38 industries. In phase II, the 150 candidates submit the SPEx2® DX Eligibility Form and the presentations materials (in PowerPoint as additional documents) to the committee. The committee will select only candidates that will present in front of the jury.

Is the identity of applicants and the information submitted made available to the public?

The identity of all applicants remains confidential unless the applicant is selected as an award recipient. Information submitted by applicants also is treated as confidential. All application materials remain the property of the committee of SPEx2® DX.
